I have made a lot of friends over the last decade. Some literally. It’s hard to believe that I’ve written and illustrated 10 published books during the past 10 years. I am still awestruck when someone tells me that a student or their child has picked one of those books as their favorite.

I’m also happy that during the past 10 years I have met so many new friends. I’ve met many incredibly talented authors, illustrators, editors, agents and other folks associated with the publishing industry. I’ve also met booksellers and librarians in many of the places I’ve travelled.

2019 was the 10th anniversary of my first school visit. I’ve done presentations at many schools, I do more and more each year. I have become good friends with a number of teachers and school librarians because of these school author visits. I’ve especially enjoyed all the students I’ve met. Their reactions to my readings, their laughter at my jokes and their appreciation when we create and draw together is priceless. I still can’t believe I have the honor and privilege of visiting all these schools. The drawings and letters they’ve sent me afterwards make me feel that I’ve really connected with them.

I’m so looking forward to the next 10 years. I’m currently scheduling school visits for the spring and I’m finishing my next 2 books. I’ve got a bunch more book ideas waiting their turn and I plan on continuing doing this forever.
